1. Writing Your Stories Like You're Writing a Text
I mean, come on! You're on a computer, not a phone! When you use texting lingo I have to go on to the Urban Dictionary just to even attempt to figure out what you're saying. I don't have a phone anymore, mainly 'cause, unlike most teenagers, I never used it, but when I did have a phone and on the rare times one of my friends texted me it would look something like this:
Just to note, I found this picture on the Internet, I didn't take it myself. Once again, I don't have a phone. I also feel sorry for the person receiving the text.
2. Use Horrible Spelling and Grammar When There's No Need to
Almost everything has Spell Check now a days. From Microsoft Word to Yahoo! Answers to You Tube to Facebook, everything has fucking Spell Check! There is seriously no excuse as to why you can't check your spelling and grammar! You have the tools, use them!
3. Anyone Who is in Eighth Grade or Younger is Automatically a Bad Writer
I have yet to see the day where someone under the age of Fifteen is an amazing writer. The fact is, you haven't had a lot of experience in writing yet. I remember when I was in eighth grade, I was obsessed with that Tokyo Mew Winx Club fan fic I was writing. I thought it was the best thing in the world, but then one day I woke up and realized how terrible it was. It was complete crap. I felt stupid reading it and I was the author. It pretty much just ripped off Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, Winx Club, Family Guy, and, on one occasion, Gilmore Girls. Plus as I got older, my writing got deeper, more emotional. I wanted to write something else, so I deleted all of my Tokyo Mew Winx Club stuff and started writing "Betrayed".
Before someone gets mad and yells at me, I should just note that there is still a chance that someone under the age of fifteen is an amazing writer, I just haven't met them yet. But in general, most people under the age of fifteen are horrible writers. I think it's because they haven't experienced that much in life yet.
4. Use an Over Used Idea
I am sorry, but I have seen at least twenty "vampire" fan fics on the Shugo Chara! page alone. I can't even imagine how many are on Fanfiction.net all together! Yes, I know, mine is a "vampire" fan fic, but mine didn't start out that way. Originally, Carl and Sarah were going to be cult members, but there were a lot of loose ends and plot holes and shit like that so I just thought it'd be easier to call them vampires so there would be as much explaining as to why Carl and Sarah wanted Marceline's blood.
There are also a lot of fan fics where it's an AU (or Alternate Universe) or there's an underdeveloped OC and I don't really like too many of those either. They all just seem... Repetitive and boring.
Oh, and one more thing, I hate Submit Your Own Tribute (or SYOT) fics on the Hunger Games FanFiction.net page. It's an over used idea! I think there are more SYOT fics then there are Hunger Games. Not only that, but it's against FanFiction.net's rules. The fifth thing under entries not allowed is: "Any Form of Interactive Entry". I'm pretty certain that SYOT falls under interactive entry.
I think that's all for now. I might add more in a later post. For now, I leave you with this:
